Riverbank Run Volunteer FAQs

The YMCA Riverbank Run takes place in downtown Missoula. All races start at Higgins & Broadway, and end along the Kim Williams across from Caras Park. The 5K and 1 Mile within the University District and downtown. The 10K runs through Midtown along South Avenue. Volunteers are stationed throughout the entire course.

Safety is our top priority and volunteers help make this happen! Each intersection along the course is monitored by pre-assigned volunteers and we count on every volunteer for this race.

This is a one-day volunteer opportunity. You will need to attend a mandatory volunteer orientation on race day, time TBA.

All volunteer shifts are 8:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m. on race day. You will need to remain at your assigned location for your entire shift. There are a limited number of shorter volunteer shifts available. Please email riverbankrun@ymcamissoula.org ASAP should you need a shorter shift.

Race day volunteers will be responsible for stopping and redirecting traffic, directing runners, and cheering on racers. Music, cowbells, and signs highly encouraged!

If you sign up to volunteer and are unable to make it, please reach out to us ASAP at riverbankrun@ymcamissoula.org so we can find a replacement.

All volunteers are required to check in and attend a brief orientation at the YMCA (3000 S. Russell St.). Orientations will be offered 7:30–8:15 a.m. You will receive detailed information on your course assignment, this year's race shirt, and a safety vest.
